Current Sermon Series: Take Root

Roots are an amazing part of plants. They have so many functions. They are used to absorb both nutrients and water out of the soil. They provide stability and allow them to withstand the forces of wind, floods, and anything else that might push against it. Additionally, roots can provide for community. When you consider the redwood tree, their magnificent attributes are based upon their root system. These trees are the tallest trees in the world and can live for thousands of years. They are able to do this because their shallow roots intertwine with the roots of other trees around them. Redwood trees will also share nutrients through their connected root systems.

Roots are a valuable image for the life of a Christian. We are called to be careful what we put our root into so that we can be fruitful. We are called to stand firm in the midst of hardship and oppression. We are called to connect with one another so that we can mutually support and encourage our community.

Our theme for 2025 is “Take Root.” We will find reminders throughout Scripture of the importance of protecting our root!
